Netanyahu inspected upgraded eastern border defenses as Israel prepares for Iranian-backed smuggling and infiltration threats.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz conducted a security tour Wednesday along Israel’s eastern border, reviewing new defense upgrades aimed at stopping weapons smuggling and preventing infiltration by Iranian-backed militias and terrorist groups.
The visit included senior IDF officials, including the Deputy Chief of Staff and the commander of Division 96. Netanyahu and Katz inspected one of the main “Waterline Outposts,” part of an advanced network of frontline positions recently renovated under a broader plan to strengthen Israel’s eastern defensive line.
During the tour, the leaders received intelligence and operational briefings on the construction of a new physical and technological barrier, along with the deployment of advanced surveillance systems, radar capabilities, and combat equipment.
Netanyahu praised the soldiers serving in the sector, saying Israel understands that its enemies seek to invade and therefore relies on the forces guarding the frontier. He said he was impressed by the new tools and capabilities, but even more by the troops themselves.
The prime minister told the soldiers that the entire people of Israel trust them, saluted their service, and thanked them for defending the country under difficult conditions.
