Cruz Blasts Trump’s Iran Deal As Republicans Warn Tehran Is Being Rewarded With Billions

GOP critics say the MOU risks rebuilding Iran’s threat instead of permanently crushing its ambitions.

Texas Republican Senator Ted Cruz voiced sharp concern on Wednesday over President Donald Trump’s memorandum of understanding with Iran, warning that the agreement contains dangerous American concessions to Tehran.

Cruz said history shows that giving billions of dollars to radical regimes hostile to America is a disastrous mistake. He argued that Trump is receiving poor advice from those shaping the Iran framework.

His criticism came after the White House released the full text of the provisional deal. The framework reportedly includes steps toward lifting restrictions on Iranian petroleum exports and gives Tehran access to a $300 billion post-war reconstruction fund.

Cruz is not alone in his opposition. Louisiana Senator Bill Cassidy condemned the agreement as the worst foreign policy blunder in decades, warning that Iran has learned that threatening the Strait of Hormuz brings rewards.

Cassidy argued that the deal fails to curb Iran’s nuclear ambitions while allowing the regime to rebuild infrastructure after the war.

Former U.S. Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley also attacked the agreement, saying America is preparing to fund the very threat it just struck. She warned that Iran’s regime will use unlocked billions to fuel nuclear ambitions and terrorist proxies.

Haley said striking Iran’s nuclear and missile sites was the right decision, but paying Tehran afterward to rebuild would be a huge mistake.

Former Vice President Mike Pence also criticized the MOU, saying it “smells of appeasement” and gives Iran major benefits without demanding serious reciprocal commitments.

The growing Republican backlash exposes a widening divide over Trump’s Iran strategy, with critics warning that any deal rewarding Tehran risks empowering the same regime that threatens Israel, America, and the wider Middle East.
